and the stone men stepped down from their pedestals,

while the firecats raced through the crowds;

the children grew fangs and envenomed spines

and leapt screaming at the clouds;

then Satan punched a hole through the world

and called for an end to the dying,

and the angels stormed the gates of Heaven

to leave the saints homeless and crying;

the children of myth coursed through the cities

while God abdicated his throne,

and all mankind ascended in a flash of light

and I was left watching, and the earth was alone;

then over the smoking ruins of reality,

all Heaven and Earth on fire,

the whole course of humanity circled,

blazing through the universe in a gyre;

and God and Satan made each other amends,

and every lover was sundered from her mate,

and the circling souls sped straight for the Core,

and the firecats and the stone men learned to hate;

then I wandered the deserts with smoking hair,

engulfed by the sands at the end of Time,

and the stone men followed, grinding

while the firecats flashed past their legs and mine;

so I lead my army of imagination,

all these creatures that never were,

and we dismissed the horror of humanity,

and gave thanks at the end of the world.
